Peoria is a city of about 112,169 residents, and most of the deck builders on this page are general contractors and remodelers that build decks next to kitchens, bathrooms and roofs. 18 deck builders cover Peoria and the towns around it, among them Peoria Heights, Norwood, Morton, Creve Coeur, Groveland and Washington. The city lists adding or moving a deck as work that requires a permit. Permit applications are emailed to the Community Development Department, and permits are issued from the Development Center on the second floor of City Hall. The residential alteration application has a Deck checkbox, and it calls for construction drawings and a site plan drawn to scale. Fees are worked out from the total construction cost, and a fee schedule is linked from the Building Safety page.

Inspections follow a few simple rules. The applicant calls the assigned inspector at least 24 hours before each inspection, and concealed work and framing must be inspected and approved before they are covered.
